March 4, 1945
Birth of FC Red Star Belgrade
In February 1945, during World War II, a group of young men, active players, students and members of the Serbian United Antifascist Youth League, decided to form a Youth Physical Culture Society, that was to become Red Star Belgrade on 4 March.
1948
First Trophy
The first Trophy didn’t come until 1948, when we won the first Cup. In the final game we defeated our biggest rivals FC Partizan Belgrade with the impressive 3:0 score.
1979
UEFA Cup Finals
After eliminating teams like Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Hertha BSC, Red Star made for the first time the UEFA Cup final. There we met extraordinary Borussia Mönchengladbach team and lost 2–1 on aggregate.
May 29, 1991
European Cup Champions
The crown of success finally arrived at Belgrade Marakana Stadium in 1991 when the Golden generation of the Serbian club won European and World Championships. In the European Cup Finals we defeated Olympique from Marseille, just to go on and bring the World Cup from Tokyo into the premises of the Crvena Zvezda stadium a few months later.

Rajko Mitić Stadium
Red Star’s home ground is the Rajko Mitić Stadium also known as Marakana. The stadium was opened in 1963 and is the largest stadium in Serbia with a seated capacity of 53,000. Marakana garnered the reputation of being a very tough ground for visiting teams to play in and according to American Bleacher Report is ranked among the most intimidating stadiums in the world because of the fanatic support from the FC Red Star fans.

Red Star is the most popular football club in Serbia. The club has fans and sympathizers not only domestically but also throughout the global Serbian diaspora. They are also known as Delije which roughly translated in English means “Heroes” or “Braves”. They are one of the most famous supporter groups in the world, renowned for their passion and fanaticism.

Five Stars of FC Red Star
Red Star has almost a 50-year-long tradition of giving the title of the Star of Red Star to the players that had a major impact on the club’s history and have made the name of the club famous around the globe. So far, five players and the entire 1991 team were officially given the title. They are: Rajko Mitić, Dragoslav Šekularac, Dragan Džajić, Vladimir Petrović “Pižon”, Dragan Stojković “Piksi”. The 6th Star of Red Star is the 1991 European Cup Winner Generation.

Youth Academy
Some of the most notable home-grown players include Dragan Džajić, named the all-time Serbian best player, then Dragoslav Šekularac, Vladimir Petrović Pižon, Vladimir Jugović – two times the European Cup winner (with Red Star and Juventus), as well as Dejan Stanković (Inter Milan) and Nemanja Vidić (Manchester United).
